Establishment of Faculty of Forestry and Environment
The Faculty of Forestry was one of the founding faculties during the establishment of Universiti Pertanian Malaysia in 1971, and renamed as Universiti Putra Malaysia since 1997. The Faculty of Environmental Studies began as the Department of Environmental Sciences in the faculty of Science, UPM in August 1976 and as a result of this the faculty was renamed as the Faculty of Science and Environmental studies. However, on 1 st March 2020, the University’s Management and the Board of Directors had agreed to the University’s Governance Transformation Plan. The Plan’s aim was to improve and enhance UPM’s excellence in the international higher learning arena. UPM decided to kick start this plan by merging two Faculties. Faculty of Forestry and Faculty of Environmental Studies merged and is now known as the Faculty of Forestry and Environment, teaming-up to “fortify Mother Nature.”

The Faculty of Forestry and Environment consist of four departments. The Department of Forestry Science and Biodiversity, Department of Natural Resource Industry, Department of Park and Recreation and Department of Environment. The organization is led by a Dean and three Deputy Deans, four administrative officers and four Head of Departments. The current Organizational Chart is depicted below:




The faculty offers five undergraduate programs, Master and PhD by research programs and Master of Environment (Coursework). The undergraduate programs offered are Bachelor of Forestry Science, Bachelor of Wood Science and Technology, Bachelor of Parks and Recreation Science, Bachelor of Environmental Management and Bachelor of Environmental Sciences and Technology. It has the strength of 186 academic and non-academic staff with field of expertise in forestry and environment. With its tagline “Save Nature, Save Future,” Faculty of Forestry and Environment aims to educate and cultivate the love for nature amongst the students and community.
